Explaining the golf impact position:
There are two factors that all great players have at
impact position. The first is a foreword leaning shaft
with a flat left wrist and a bent right wrist. The second
is having your weight on the left side with the hips
open at impact position. When looking behind the golfer
or down the target line of the golfer both buttocks
are visible at impact. Every great player does both.
Lets take a look a Sergio Gracie and Darren Clark for
2 great example of two different golfers at impact position
in relation to their body at impact. Sergio's hips are
already facing the target at impact, in Darren Clarks
swing with a different bigger body type, you can see
both buttocks as well, but not as much. The difference
with amateur golfers is their hips are facing the golf
ball at impact causing then to flip at the ball with
their wrist and or bend their arms or come across the
ball at impact. Only with the hips open can you extend
both arms correctly through the ball and gain the natural
power that lies within you.
How to achieve impact position and go through it
on every golf shot.
There is a natural and easy way to learn the impact
position and go through it on a consistent basis. Every
shot needs to go through this position. the first step
is to practice chip shots with an open stance and your
weight on the left side. Be sure to keep keep your hands
in front of the shaft through impact position with no
body motion and feeling the forward leaning shaft. This
will give you spanking hands through impact and will
also help your short game on bump and run shots.
The second step is to practice pitch
shots with the hinging of the wrist going back and body
rotation going through impact position. This is a mini
golf swing which will allow you to start feeling the
correct impact position and will improve your overall
ball striking tremendously and sharpen your short game
around the greens. Please keep in mind that your stance
should be open when doing these drills as this is the
position of the body at impact. Keep your weight on
the left side as well. This address position cheats
toward the impact position and males it easier to get
there on shorter shots (Mini golf swing). The key to
this shot is to turn the body through the ball without
using your arms. THis swing will through the correct
impact position and is excellent practice to feel correct
impact position.
