Impact position - Full swings with irons:
On the full wedge shot and most short iron shots in
general we again cheat towards the impact position at
address because of the shorter clubs and shorter swing.
The stance will be a little open with the feet while
still being square with the shoulders, so again, we
can get our hips through and achieve the correct impact
position.
On the golf swing with the mid and long irons we will
set up square with the feet and shoulders with your
weight evenly balanced on both feet, The key on this
swing is to turn everything (arms, shoulders, torso,
hips) into the right leg and not lose that flex this
set up creates. Doing this creates pressure and torque
built into the right leg, the lower body will initiate
the downswing, allowing the arms to drop naturally and
rotating through impact with our impact position being
spot on.
Impact position - Full swing with driver and fairway
woods:
When it comes to fairway woods and the drivers we will
cheat the impact position in the opposite way. When
taking the stance we will play the ball more forward
with more of a tilt back with the upper body and a little
more weight on the right leg. Because the club is longer
we are cheating towards getting everything moving together
into that flexed right leg. Once again releasing that
torque in the lower body to start the downswing keeps
everything in sequence and moves through the correct
impact position to a long straight and powerful shot.
I hope this article helps you understanding the impact
position and how important the impact position is in
the golf swing and more importantly how to get there.
Enjoy and have fun.
